Become a NAMI Teacher

NAMI California offers training for people interested in becoming teachers in NAMI’s signature programs, including Family to Family, NAMI Basics, and Family Support Group.

Family to Family training is for family members volunteers to teach the Family to Family 12 week course, an educational class for family members who have a loved one with a mental illness.

NAMI Basics training is for family members and caregivers desiring to teach the Basics 6 week course, a course that supports parents of children who are affected by a mental illness..

Family Support Group training is for volunteers desiring to conduct a family support group and is a family member of someone living with a mental illness. Experience having participated in a support group is preferred.

Materials, training, lodging and meals are free for all trainings.

APPLICATION PROCESS: Contact us at NAMI Monterey if you are interested in becoming trained. Candidates must be referred for training by the Program Coordinator, or a Family to Family or Basics teacher, a NAMI Support Group facilitator, or their local NAMI board member.

October – Family to Family in Ukiah (Mendocino County) – Training dates to be announced soon!

November 6th- 8th 2015 – Basics in Sacramento

February – Family Support Group in Northern California (TBA)

March – Family to Family in Ventura (TBA)

April – Basics and Family to Family in Ontario (TBA)

Also, applications are being accepted for Peer to Peer teacher training events scheduled in Ukiah in October and in Ventura in March.
